Shrinivas Sugandhalaya was founded in India, by the late Shri K.N. Satyam Setty, as a small incense manufacturing company in 1964. He chose to manufacture incense using an ancient method of blending fragrances, first used by monks in medieval times.
The key ingredients of incense were added and mixed into a ‘container’ resin, and then hand-rolled into incense.
This technique, known as “masala” or “flora” incense, became the main focus of incense manufacture at Shrinivas Sugandhalaya. An alternative method, ‘charcoal incense’, involves dipping an unscented stick into the ingredient mixture alone.
Masala incense sticks are recognized as lasting longer and having a stronger fragrance than dipped incense, and Satyam Setty is acknowledged worldwide as the ‘King of Masala Incense’.
Satyam Setty was a keen innovator and used the power of his imagination to evoke powerful moods through his incense recipe blends.
One of the best and most popular blends from the company was the ‘Satya Sai Baba Nag Champa’, which is still the most sought after and commercially successful masala incense blend in the world today.
A New Chapter
With the Shrinivas Sugandhalaya company well established by the application of Satyam Setty’s radical manufacturing techniques, and with the benefit of the range of fragrances he had developed, his son Shri Balakrishna Setty joined the company to be apprenticed under his father. Balakrishna Setty has striven to combine his own innovative genius and creativity with the familiar high standards of the original manufacturing process, with purity and quality ingredients remaining the key to success.
Shri Balakrishna Setty was encouraged by his father’s belief and trust to invent a new hand-rolled Agarbatti fragrance called ‘Super Hit’. Nag Champa and Super Hit quickly came to be loved across the country’s homes, and with their success, Shrinivas Sugandhalaya incenses became ever more popular for their famous purifying qualities.
In 2014, a new company, Shrinivas Sugandhalaya (BNG) LLP was established in the Southern city of Bangalore, India, under management headed by Shri Balakrishna Setty.
Fans of the old Shrinivas Sugandhalaya are guaranteed the continued authenticity and vibrancy of their beloved incense brand, while new fans are treated to a range of new and evolving products from the house of Shrinivas Sugandhalaya (BNG) LLP.
